I remember this one time I had gone with my aunt to wash her car in the summer. There was a boy that looked a couple years older than me (I was about 15 at the time) that was working that day. All was normal and once the wash was finished, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the boy had moved to the passenger side of the car.
My aunt paid at the counter and I made my way over to the other side, when I saw him open the door and offer me his hand to help me get in… I’m not going to lie, I was swooning on the inside at such a chivalrous gesture. I was in a relationship at the time but I had never experienced something so sweet that I couldn’t help but give him a genuine smile (and the obvious thank you).
To this day, that has always been a small act that someone has done for me that I’ve kept very close in my memory. It’s always the little things people do for us that, not only go a long way, but stay with us even years later. You never know what impact you can have on a person with just the tiniest, random-est act of kindness you can think of.

You don’t have to parade it in front of other people. You don’t have to spend your whole checks worth on a gift. You don’t even have to give some elaborate speech on how amazing you think they are. A simple smile, a hug, an invitation, an outing, a conversation, be creative if you want to! Nothing matters more to people than the realization that somebody cares.
Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.
Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
That’s why you constantly see on social media the infamous “Show an act of kindness at least once a day” quote. Your actions speak so much louder than your words, sometimes, ever will. They truly make a difference and you don’t even know it.
Make those gestures, take those actions and throw in the words here and there. You can’t deny it won’t make your heart feel a little lighter the same way you made the world feel a little happier… or at least someone else’s world.
