Last week my boyfriend and I arrived in Krabi. It was the beginning of our great adventure in Thailand. Two days before, when we had taken our first plane, we were excited and happy but then, after two 7-hours flights and one day stopover, we were tired as hell and our biggest dream was to enter our room and fall asleep in our bed!
First bad news: as soon as we landed, it became clear that before to exit the arrivals zone, we had to compile an immigration form. We didn’t know what we had to do and it was really hard to understand because everyone there seemed to speak English poorly.
I was so tired and had felt sick on the airplane, thus, even my English speaking skills were not so brilliant… We had a hard time, but we made it and finally passed the passport control.
Second bad news, the terrible one: when we recovered our suitcase and started to look for the person who was expected to be waiting for us, we discovered that our hotel didn’t send anyone to pick us up at the airport.
We were about to panic because we were stressed, tired, just landed on the other side of the world with no one taking care of us, without a valid SIM card and expendable money in our pockets. Plus no one seemed to understand simple sentences in English.
Right before panicking, we became lucky! A woman from the Thai Destination Service, who was not waiting for us, asked who we were waiting for, we answered and she helped us to contact our hotel.
We called up to 7 times to tackle the situation, but in half an hour, we did it! She informed us that someone would come for us in about twenty minutes.
What I learned from this experience is that, no matter the troubles you’re in, you gotta be calm. Remain clearheaded and focus. Don’t panic! No matter what the problem is, there’s always a solution. There’s always someone who’s ready to help which is so great. Especially on the other side of the world.
When traveling, it is absolutely normal to have unforeseen events occur. All you can do is take a deep breath and try to solve the situation. Never let a bad moment ruin your dream vacation! Be positive and strong
